VOLUNTEER WORK

Boys & Girls Club

I volunteered every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at the Boys and Girls Club. While there, I tutored and aided elementary school students who were having difficulty in different subject areas. On a typical day, I would spend my time helping kids who had trouble with their reading assignments and homework. Volunteering at the organization helped me to better understand kids and refined my communication skills. As a tutor at the Boys and Girls Club, I’ve become a more capable individual from taking responsibility for the kids and guiding them in the right direction.

Impact Autism Club

I was an active member and volunteer with the Impact Autism Club. Every month a Kid’s Day Out (KDO) event was held at Westside Park where we spent time with kids diagnosed on the autism spectrum. I really enjoyed the time spent with them and found the volunteer work to be fulfilling. Even though the event was a way for the kids to have an enjoyable time out, it brought me joy seeing them run around screaming and laughing. The KDOs also provided me a break from schoolwork and helped to relieve stress. The time I’ve spent at these events taught me the importance of community and the impact I can make on the lives of these children. Overall, taking part in these monthly KDOs has made me a more patient and caring individual.
